Microbial Oxidative Degradation Analyzer (ISO 14855-2, ISO 17556, and ISO 13975)

MODA(Microbial Oxdative Degradation Analayzer) is an analyzer which measure the biodegradation degree of organic substance, ex.biodegradable plastics etc., by activity of microbial in compost, soil or slurry digestion.

Key feature

  • For ISO14855-2 (under compost), ISO17556 (under soil)
It is familia condition for agliculture or in the processing of household waste(compostable)
  • Direct measurement of plastic degradation by microorganisms (CO2).
  • Achieved a 1/10 scale on the examination, against conventional standards (ISO 14855 and ASTM 5338)
  • The gravimetric method makes measurement easy. You can get precise data.

For aerobic biodegradation (ISO 14855-2/ISO17556)

MODA-9, MODA-6, MODA-4 are weighing devices for aerobic plastic biodegrad ability in compost or soil.

〔MODA-6/MODA-9〕

Suitable for Evaluation of Plastic Biodegradation
This device is an analysis equipment that weighs the carbon dioxide generated
by the microbial degradation of the compost that mixes the sample (bio-degradable plastic and organic industrial waste, etc.),
and evaluates biodegradability of the sample from the value. (ISO14855-2/ISO17556 examination<MODA-4/MODA-6/MODA-9>
Easy to use and highly accurate measurement
The amount of carbon dioxide generated by the biodegradation is weighed by an electronic scale for the increase of weight of the absorption column.
The use of a constant temperature chamber allows all units to run in same environmental condition.
All six units can be kept in constant and uniform temperature distribution. The air flow condition can be set individually for each unit.
Space-saving design for compactness
It is designed 600mm deep to be flat and level with ordinary experimental desks.
The front size is also set as compact as 1700mm high and 900mm/1350 wide. (MODA-6/MODA-9)
Easy replacement with drawer mechanism (compost section).
Installation or removal of compost is easily done at startup or stirring because all six units can be slid out from the constant temperature chamber.

MODA-9

  1. Nine reaction columns installed in an environmental chamber
  2. All columns under identical conditions of temperature
  3. Precise temperature control(+/-2deg.)
  4. Dimensions; Length 1350 mm x Width 450 mm x Height 1700 mm
  5. Easy operation
  6. Applicable to ISO standard 14855-2

MODA-6

  1. Six reaction columns installed in an environmental chamber
  2. All columns under identical conditions of temperature
  3. Precise temperature control(+/-2deg.)
  4. Dimensions; Length 900 mm x Width 450 mm x Height 1700 mm
  5. Easy operation
  6. Applicable to ISO standard 14855-2

〔MODA-4〕

The principle of MODA-4 is in accordance with ISO standard 14855-2, and it is suitable for any researchers who want to investigate the biodegradation easily before moving on to full-scale testing procedure in accordance with the ISO standard. For example, you will be able to investigate the progress of biodegradation with a referent material (cellulose), a blank and two other testing samples. Also you will be able to investigate the different situation in the biodegradation with one testing sample under the four different temperature conditions. Such usage of MODA-4 is the special feature caused by an independent temperature control system for each unit.

MODA-4

  1. Four reaction columns with an independent temperature control
  2. Precise temperature control (+/-2 deg.)
  3. Compact design with Length 720 mm x Width 600 mm x Height 1200 mm
  4. Easy operation
  5. Basic Biodegradable research
  6. Applicable to ISO standard 14855-2
  7. Suitable for any researchers who want to investigate biodegradation easily

For anaerobic degradation (ISO 13975)

MODA-B realizes the measurement of microorganism activity under anaerobic conditions on a laboratory scale.

〔MODA-B〕

Easy and highly accurate measurement
The methane gas evolved by biological decomposition is accumulated in a plastic bag, and the volume of gas is measured with a monomeric device.
That volumetric measurement attains as precise as 0.1mg accuracy without using any special technique or costly equipment.
(It is well comparable to an ordinary chemical analyzer.)
Six units can be run in parallel
Each of the units is adjusted independently for conditions of temperature and gas flow rate.
If not needed to run all units, just turn off the heater power and close gas collection path valves of unused units.
Space-saving design for compactness
All six units are arranged on a turntable, and the measurement will be carried out in a limited space.
Compact enough to fit on an ordinary experimental deck used for physics and chemistry.(730×610)
Independent temperature control for each unit
Temperature controllers on the operation panel allow independent setting for each unit.
In the same sense, stirring time is independently adjusted by timers provided for each unit on the operation panel.

MODA-B

  1. For evaluation of microorganism activity and biodegradability
of plastic in slurry digestion systems
  2. Bench top type (Length 720 mm x Width 600 mm x Height 900 mm)
  3. Six reaction columns with an independent temperature control system
  4. Evolved gas recirculated through the digestion
for stirring at a user-controlled rate
  5. Easy operation
  6. Applicable to ISO standard 13975

Interview

Why do you use SAIDA’s equipment?
SAIDA’s Microbial Oxidative Degradation Analyser (MODA) is a well-designed and reliable equipment that is capable of determining the ultimate aerobic biodegradability of plastic materials under controlled composting conditions. The equipment meets all the basic principle that is required in order to conduct the ultimate aerobic biodegradability as stipulated in the ISO14855-2 test method.
What is the merit or strong point of SAIDA’s equipment?
n general, it is accepted that a maximum incubation period of 180 days (6 months) is required for a typical ultimate aerobic biodegradation test of plastic materials under a controlled composting conditions. In order to fulfill this long period of test duration, the availability of a reliable, robust equipment is indeed an advantage. SAIDA’s Microbial Oxidative Degradation Analyser (MODA) was developed with the intentions to meet the requirements in the ISO14855-2 test method. The equipment is equipped with a temperature controlled climatic chamber, which houses the composting vessels that is attached to an air-feed control system with the ability to supply individually controlled air flows to the compost.

Other advantage of the this equipment is the close system design being adopted, that allows the effective use of gas traps to remove any ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, volative organics acids and water that may present in the gases evolved as the byproduct of the composting process. In addition, the carbon dioxide evolved from the composting vessels is determined using a less sophisticated, but accurate method via a carbon dioxide trap and gravimetric analysis of the absorbent.
